Trigon was selected to serve as the Prime Consultant responsible for performing an assessment of the Buras Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Plaquemines Parish, LA. This assessment was intended to determine the necessary repairs, rehabilitation measures and/or process modifications required to improve operational conditions of the WWTP, which typically sees an average daily flow of just under 1 MGD.
The assessment included:
• Site visits to assess process/mechanical equipment, structural features, and electrical systems at the plant,
• Interviews with current plant operators and equipment vendors to gauge current and ideal operations which may be used to set equipment and process standards
• Analysis of the current treatment process to determine whether it is the most suitable for the plant and the area it services
• Investigation into the current NPDES permit status, as well as any past or current violations
• Identification of improvements that have an emergency status, requiring immediate action, those that may be implemented without further design efforts, and others which are more complex and require planning and detailed design prior to implementation.
Trigon prepared and submitted a report with findings and recommendations to Plaquemines Parish in August 2019 and delivered a presentation of the report. Due to funding issues, subsequent phases of work have not yet been authorized. However, the intent is to eventually initiate design efforts for a new headworks facility, at a minimum, once funding is allocated.
