Trigon provided comprehensive engineering, design, and construction services for the replacement of the Braithwaite area’s wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Plaquemines Parish, which had been severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The original facility was submerged in brackish water for an extended period, prompting emergency interventions to restore partial functionality. The project centered on long-term solutions to fully replace the damaged plant and enhance its treatment capabilities.
Additional improvements were made to the process facilities of the WWTP, and assessments were conducted on both the influent and effluent pump stations, which are submersible. During the rehabilitation, wastewater flow was temporarily redirected to another treatment plant.
This vital disaster recovery effort involved partial funding and required close coordination with the US Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (DHS/FEMA).
